Spending Some Time at Couture Craft Studio

One year ago, my sister, Jaime Restrepo, threw caution to the wind to realize her DIY dream and opened Couture Craft Studio in Waldwick, NJ. Her studio offers daily craft classes for children of all ages, open studio time to come in and create on your own, and amazing handcrafted birthday parties and private events. I have to admit when she first told me of the idea to open her studio I was skeptical. While I loved the idea in theory, starting your own business with the physical store front seemed like risky business to me. (If you couldn’t already tell I’m the older more practical sister.) Despite my reservations Couture Craft Studio has thrived and become something that I don’t think either one of us could imagined. This past week I was finally able to visit the Studio for the first time since it opened and I wanted to share my experience.

During the week I (and my children) took advantage of pretty much everything the Studio has to offer. The first thing I did was set up my sewing machine and got some quality sewing time in. I sew in a pretty small space at home so I can’t tell you how awesome it was to have a huge table to spread out on. I also got to teach my sister how to use Wonder Under! We did some initial applique skirts for our girls. Totally making an apron for myself like this.

My 3 smaller children who were with me took part in several classes. It was photography week in the studio so they made their own card stock cameras and extra large Polaroid paintings.

My littlest one had a particularly fun time during the Little Crafters class. He loved putting on the apron to paint and using glue (anything that he could make a mess with).

We also got some pre-Memorial Day crafting on with liberty torches and crowns!

While the kids were crafting, I was put to work using my super organization skills (it’s my super power that I can organize anyone except myself) to clean out the Studio’s storage closet. All I can say is thank goodness they are expanding their space this summer!

On Sunday I was able volunteer with the Studio at the 10th Annual Touch a Truck event put on my the Junior League of Bergen County. We did some wonderful popsicle stick crafts and face painting. The ladies of the Junior League are a wonderful group of women and did such a fantastic job.

All in all a pretty fantastic week. So glad to be able to see and be a part of this wonderful thing my sister has created. If you happen to live in the New Jersey are please check it out.

Happy one year anniversary to Couture Craft Studio!
